Costa Rica/Panama Trip Preview

Things are kind of crazy right now trying to catch up on all the school I missed while we were gone, but I thought I would get a few pictures posted now. Much more to come later. Suffice it to say, our trip was amazing.

Snorkeling in Bocas del Toro, Panama. La Fortuna waterfall near Arenal volcano, Costa Rica.
Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica.
The Hanging Bridges, Costa Rica.
One of the unusual and beautiful flowers we saw.
Costa Rica butterfly.
Another butterfly - its wings were completely transparent.
Empanada and Tropical. So yummy.
Typical Costa Rican breakfast of Gallo Pinto (black beans and rice with spices), sausage, toast, fruit, and juice.
We saw lots of amazing frogs and even had the good fortune to get a couple models who stayed still long enough for us to take some pictures.

Crossing the border of Costa Rica and Panama on foot.

We road this dug-out canoe up a river for an hour and a half to visit the Naso Indians. I was pretty sure we were going to tip over and ruin our cameras. Paul was too as you can tell by the "Amy-what-have-you-got-us-into-now?" look in this picture.
Bocas del Toro is an archipelago on the Caribbean side of Panama. We took water taxis from island to island. The grass huts in this picture are a restaurant where we ate Arroz con Mariscos (rice with seafood) for lunch.

Paul and Amy looking like total tourists in the Panamanian jungle.

These photos were all taken on my little point and shoot camera, not Paul's new Canon. We'll try to document the trip with more detail later this week, but here's the short version: Ten days, terribly delayed flights and a painful bus ride down to Panama, gorgeous tropical rainstorms in the Carribean, aqua-marine water and powdery sand, fresh seafood daily, mud so bad on a jungle trek that it destroyed my favorite green travel pants, boat rides, bus rides, taxi rides, canoe rides, a 6.2 earthquake in Costa Rica with the epicenter just miles away from where we were checking out a rental car, horseback riding to a waterfall, waterslides and natural thermal hot springs, frogs, crocodiles, birds, monkeys, butterflies, leaf-cutter ants, hanging bridges, dolphins, turtles, night-time lava watching, mosquito bites, fresh pineapple, arroz con pollo, heat rash, souvenir shopping, and tropical drinks. It was a great trip.

  2. Your pictures are so beautiful! I'm jealous. I want to go to Costa Rica. Didn't you guys go there for your honeymoon? One of these days I'll make it down there.

By the way, when do move to California?

  7. Beautiful! I would love to see it some day! Now didn't you guys go there on your honeymoon? For some reason, I think I remember you saying that Paul served his mission there and that you guys honeymooned there. Am I totally making this up?

  8. What a great trip! I will have to convince Charlie to take me with him next time he goes for work. Though I doubt we could be quite as adventerous with Isaac in tow. Looks like you guys had a fantastic time!

  10. Love the pictures! I can't believe how good they were, they looked professional. As a scrapbooking enthusiast and a lousy photographer I'll need to take a page from your book. You can always teach me in Miami, right? And well, I GUESS I can forgive you for leaving since I didn't see any internet cafes in the pictures... ;)
